Basketball Game Preview: Del Lago Academy Firebirds vs. Coronado Islanders

The Del Lago Academy Firebirds will venture away from home to square off against the Coronado Islanders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Del Lago Academy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 45-31 victory over Southwest SD.

Meanwhile, Coronado made easy work of High Tech NC on Saturday and carried off a 38-17 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Islanders.

Del Lago Academy better keep an eye on Selena Herrera. She was instrumental in Coronado's win, putting up 19 points and four steals. That's the most steals Herrera has posted since back in December of 2024. Gabby Fichter was another key player, earning seven points.

Del Lago Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.6 points over those games. Coronado's record is now 18-4.
