Soccer Game Preview: Rootstown vs. Kirtland

The Rootstown Rovers will face off against the Kirtland Hornets at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Rootstown is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 4.7 goals per game this season.

Rootstown barely beat Grand Valley the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Rovers were the clear victors by a 4-1 margin over the Mustangs on Thursday. With Rootstown ahead 3-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Zach Pastor and Sam Textor scored all four of Rootstown's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 38 goals.

Meanwhile, it may have taken extra minutes to finish the job, but Kirtland ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They skirted past Wellington 3-2. Kirtland haven't had any issues with Wellington recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Rootstown's win bumped their record up to 13-4-1. As for Kirtland, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6-3.

Everything went Rootstown's way against Kirtland when the teams last played back in September, as Rootstown made off with a 4-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rovers since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
