Basketball Recap: Wednesday's Victory Is South El Monte's Third in Last Four Outings

If El Monte wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played South El Monte, they should've done a better job of containing Justine Lucero. The South El Monte Eagles claimed a resounding 50-10 win over the El Monte Lions thanks in part to Lucero, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of South El Monte's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Kelly Chen, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. That's the most points she has posted since back in November of 2024.

South El Monte has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 9-11 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 37 points. As for El Monte, their loss was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-14.

South El Monte wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 65-47 defeat against Whittier Christian on the 25th. As for El Monte, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 34-15 loss against Arroyo on the 24th.
