Baseball Recap: Thomas Jefferson Academy Comes Up Short

Thomas Jefferson Academy had lost five straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 10-13 to make it six. They lost 9-3 to the David Emanuel Academy Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, with their most recent defeat being a 3-2 loss on Friday.

Gavin Bailey was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Grant Gillooly made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double. He has become a key player for Thomas Jefferson Academy: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-11 otherwise.

As for David Emanuel Academy, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-5. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

On David Emanuel Academy's side, the team relied heavily on Richard Braddy, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI Braddy has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Tucker Free, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Looking ahead, Thomas Jefferson Academy will square off against Westminster Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. David Emanuel Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
