Softball Recap: Novinger Victorious

Novinger took an 11-run defeat the last time they faced off against Atlanta, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wildcats skirted past the Hornets 15-14. The high-scoring effort was just what the Wildcats needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Mikayla McKim spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and 11 unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 14 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 6.7 strikeouts per game.

At the plate, Avery Carter was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Isabella White was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

The victory got Novinger back to even at 4-4. As for Atlanta, they dropped their record down to 3-8 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Novinger will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Scotland County at 5:00 p.m. on the 14th. As for Atlanta, they will square off against North Shelby at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Raiders' pitching crew has only allowed 1.5 runs per game this season, so the Hornets' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
