Softball Recap: Sturgeon Takes a Loss

Sturgeon extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 7-4-1. They came up short against the Glasgow Yellowjackets, falling 10-0. That's two games in a row now that the Bulldogs have lost by exactly ten runs.

Aydra Ladyman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and six unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Sturgeon saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zoey Spencer, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base.

As for Glasgow, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-3. Considering they have won seven games by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Glasgow's side, Brooklynn Morris made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Morris has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That run marked the first that she has scored this season.

In other batting news, Hailey Monnig was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Riley Olendorff also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sturgeon will square off against Wellsville-Middletown at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Glasgow, they will challenge Tina-Avalon at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
