Basketball Recap: Hempfield Area Takes a Loss

After flying high against Kiski Area last Wednesday, Hempfield Area came back down to earth. The Hempfield Area Spartans were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 48-47 to the Canon-McMillan Big Macs. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 51-32 back in January.

Leading Canon-McMillan to victory were Lauren Borella and Madison Clair. Borella posted 19 points, while Clair went 5 of 12 en route to 15 points and five boards. Another player making a difference was Olivia Ross, who had four points and six rebounds.

Hempfield Area's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Canon-McMillan, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hempfield Area will square off against Upper St. Clair at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Canon-McMillan, they will host Norwin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
