Basketball Recap: Minarets Takes a Loss

Minarets was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 40-39 heartbreaker at the hands of the Riverdale Cowboys. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cowboys apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Minarets lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Savannah Garabedian, who posted 18 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven steals. That's the most steals Garabedian has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Amie Matteson, who put up seven points along with eight boards and eight steals.

Karen Ayala was the offensive standout of the matchup as she earned 14 points.

Minarets' loss dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Riverdale, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-8.

Minarets didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 101-10 defeat against Caruthers on the 28th. As for Riverdale, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 66-27 loss against Yosemite on the 28th.
