Basketball Recap: Point Loma Falls Despite Big Games from Megan Morris and Avery Heckman

Point Loma was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They took a 29-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Canyon Hills Rattlers . The Pointers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rattlers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.

Avery Heckman and Megan Morris certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Heckman posted four points and 14 boards, while Morris had two points and seven rebounds. Heckman has been hot, having also posted two or more blocks the last five times she's played.

Canyon Hills can attribute much of their success to Anayla Saulo, who earned five points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. With that strong performance, Saulo is now averaging an impressive 2 steals per game. Miranda Pena was another key player, putting up three points and six steals.

Point Loma's defeat dropped their record down to 4-15. As for Canyon Hills, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-8.

Point Loma has already played their next contest (against Crawford), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Canyon Hills will venture away from home to take on Clairemont at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Canyon Hills is facing Clairemont at the right time seeing as Clairemont is stuck on a 12-game losing streak.
