Softball Recap: Centura Snags 11th Win in Last 12 Games

Centura had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Everything went their way against the Kearney Catholic Stars on Thursday as they made off with a 17-9 victory. The Centurions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Calleigh Sundberg spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up six Ks. She also set a new season-high mark in runs with three.

At the plate, Emma Jacobs was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with six RBI, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most runs she has posted since back in September. Another player making a difference was Natalie Jarman, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

Centura always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .535. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kearney Catholic only posted an OBP of .371.

Centura has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Kearney Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 28-7.

Coming up, Centura will face off against St. Cecilia at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Centurions 3.5, the Bluehawks 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Kearney Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
