Football Recap: Christian Brothers Falcons vs. Ponderosa Bruins
Christian Brothers extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to ten on Friday, dropping them down to 0-8. They came up short against the Ponderosa Bruins, falling 49-28. The Falcons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bruins apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.
Despite the defeat, Christian Brothers had strong showings from Deakon Holden, who rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns, and Jay Cummings, who rushed for 103 yards and one TD on only 14 carries. Holden got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 75 yards.
As for Ponderosa, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 Christian Brothers and 2-3 Bella Vista.
Ponderosa got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Zealand Jenks out in front who rushed for 76 yards and a pair of scores on only nine carries, and also picked up 45 receiving yards and one touchdown. Jenks also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up a sack and making three total tackles in addition to snagging an interception. Another player making a difference was Marshall Alvernaz, who rushed for 88 yards and three TDs.
Christian Brothers didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 50-49 victory against Bella Vista on the 17th. As for Ponderosa, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 28-14 loss against Rio Americano on the 17th.
