Football Recap: Tucumcari Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Nick Geon and Daymion Urioste

After flying high against Cuba two weeks ago, Tucumcari came back down to earth. The Rattlers came up short against the Estancia Bears on Friday, falling 38-14. The Rattlers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bears apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Tucumcari's loss came despite strong showings from Daymion Urioste and Nick Geon. Urioste picked up 157 receiving yards and one TD, while Geon threw for 193 yards and one touchdown on only 15 passes. Urioste's longest reception was for an impressive 69 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total.

Even if they lost, Tucumcari's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Niemiah Pacheco and Junior Giner, who each picked up 1.5 sacks apiece.

Tucumcari has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season. As for Estancia, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.
