Soccer Game Preview: Venice vs. Culver City

Venice is 0-3 against Culver City since November of 2016 but things could change on Saturday. The Venice Gondoliers will square off against the Culver City Centaurs at 4:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Venice comes in on five and Culver City on nine.

Venice's defense heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They walked away with a 2-0 victory over Los Angeles CES. Given the Gondoliers' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while the Unicorns are ranked 325th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Culver City's game on Friday was all tied up 0-0 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. Everything went their way against Lawndale as Culver City made off with a 4-0 win. The Centaurs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by three goals or more this season.

Culver City's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-5. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those seven contests. As for Venice, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-2-3 record this season.

Venice came up short against Culver City in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 2-0. Can Venice avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
