Soccer Game Preview: Escalon vs. Hughson

The Escalon Cougars will head out to take on the Hughson Huskies at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Escalon's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for six straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Escalon is likely headed into the match with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Hilmar on Friday. Escalon lost 3-0 to Hilmar. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 836th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 361st).

Meanwhile, Hughson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They came up short against Ripon Christian, falling 5-0. The game was a close 1-0 at the break, but unfortunately for the Huskies it sure didn't stay that way.

Hughson's defeat dropped their record down to 6-13-1. As for Escalon, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8-5.

Escalon was able to grind out a solid win over Hughson in their previous matchup on January 3rd, winning 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Escalon since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
