Football Game Preview: Kermit Yellow Jackets vs. Lamesa Tornadoes

Kermit is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. After each having a week off, they and the Lamesa Tornadoes will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. Kermit has given up an average of 36.7 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Last Friday, Kermit took a blow against Big Spring, falling 49-14.

Despite the loss, Kermit got top-tier performance from Armando Urias, who rushed for 110 yards and one TD on only ten carries, and also picked up 39 receiving yards.

Meanwhile, Lamesa had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three last Friday. They blew past the Wildcats, posting a 63-33 victory. The Tornadoes' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Lamesa's win came from a few key players Kermit will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Deev Lugo, who rushed for 196 yards and one score while picking up 12.3 yards per carry, and also picked up 65 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. He was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 53 yards. Daniel Ramos was another key player, throwing for 315 yards and six TDs while picking up 12.1 yards per attempt.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Lamesa was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 272 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Kermit's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Lamesa, their record now sits at 3-4.

Kermit took a serious blow against Lamesa in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 49-18. Can the Yellow Jackets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
