The Dirigo Cougars will face off against the Mountain Valley Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Dirigo has three straight wins, Mountain Valley has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Dirigo is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Boothbay a 20-0 shutout on Wednesday. With that victory, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Caiden Skidgell made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Dirigo is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-7 otherwise. Skidgell was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ty LaPointe, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. He has become a key player for Dirigo: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaeden Swan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Dirigo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .650. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Hall-Dale hit Mountain Valley with a four-run first inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Falcons took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs.
Josh Pollis was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. Sawyer Durant was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run.
Dirigo's win bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Mountain Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8-1.
Dirigo skirted past Mountain Valley 5-4 when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Falcons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
