Football Recap: Lakin Comes Up Short

Lakin had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-6 to make it four. They came up short against the Colby Eagles, falling 44-23. The matchup was a close 16-13 at the break, but unfortunately for the Broncs it sure didn't stay that way.

As for Colby, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-4. That 21 point margin sets a new team best for them this season.

Cody Wright was his usual excellent self, rushing for 144 yards and three scores while picking up 8.5 yards per carry, and also picking up 134 receiving yards and one TD. Those 134 receiving yards gave him a new career-high. Maxson Smiley was another key player, having thrown for 341 yards and three touchdowns.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lakin will face off against Larned at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Broncs will be up against the Indians' rather soft defense (which has allowed 42.71 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Colby, they will square off against Scott on Friday. The Beavers' defense has only allowed 14 points per game this season, so the Eagles' offense will have their work cut out for them.
