Football Recap: Wakeland Makes It Seven in a Row at Home

If Sherman wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Wakeland, they should've done a better job of containing Braxton Cole. The Wolverines put the hurt on the Bearcats with a sharp 35-13 win on Friday with plenty of help from Cole, who rushed for 125 yards and two scores on only 15 carries. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 110 rushing yards.

One reason for the win was Wakeland's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Dallas Preston, Ryder Trapp, and Cedric Thornton, who each picked up one sack apiece. Preston was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 13 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Sherman's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Christian MacKey, who picked up 132 receiving yards and a pair of TDs, and Brayden Sheffield, who threw for 211 yards and two touchdowns. MacKey's longest reception was for an incredible 72 yards.

Wakeland pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.0 points over those games. As for Sherman, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Wakeland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Sherman, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Lebanon Trail at 7:00 p.m. The Bearcats will be up against the Trail Blazers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 33.22 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
