Basketball Game Preview: Deshler Dragons vs. Tri County Trojans

Deshler is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will head out to face off against the Tri County Trojans at 6:00 p.m.

On Friday, Deshler ended up a good deal behind Silver Lake and lost 53-35.

Deshler's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Lainey Vieselmeyer, who posted eight points and seven rebounds, and Molley Drohman, who put up ten points.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Tri County's strategy against Superior on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Trojans blew the Wildcats out of the water with a 71-24 final score. The Trojans pushed the score to 60-17 by the end of the third, a deficit the Wildcats had no chance of recovering from.

Tri County's win came from a few key players Deshler will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Isabelle Peters, who shot 45% from the field to rack up 12 points in addition to eight assists and six steals. Those eight assists gave her a new career-high. Claire Schnuelle was another key player, going 7-for-13 en route to 18 points along with seven boards and three steals.

Tri County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Deshler's defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Tri County, their record now sits at 2-0.

Deshler didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Tri County when the teams last played back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 36-30 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
