Basketball Recap: Patterson Falls Despite Big Games from Kailani Ortiz and Alyse Lomeli

Patterson has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They lost to the East Union Lancers at home by a 53-39 margin on Thursday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 52-39 back in January.

Despite the defeat, Patterson had strong showings from Alyse Lomeli, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds, and Kailani Ortiz, who went 5 for 10 en route to 15 points and three steals. Lomeli has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played.

It was another big night for Ava Barrera, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 boards for East Union. With that strong performance, Barrera is now averaging an impressive 8.2 rebounds per game. Zyondupree Beasley was another key player, putting up ten points and five boards.

Patterson's loss dropped their record down to 19-6. As for East Union, they pushed their record up to 18-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

When Patterson and East Union next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Patterson will try to stop Mountain House's 12-game winning streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, East Union will face off against Central Catholic and their three-game winning streak at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
