Basketball Recap: El Rancho Victorious

Whittier came into Wednesday's match looking for another win against El Rancho, but Carissa Basurto wouldn't allow it. The El Rancho Dons walked away with a 37-25 win over the Whittier Cardinals on Wednesday thanks in part to Basurto, who posted six points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in blocks (three).

When it comes to explaining why Whittier lost, don't look at Kassandra Mendoza. Despite the final result, she put up six points and three steals. Mendoza is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played.

El Rancho's victory bumped their record up to 18-6. As for Whittier, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing La Serna the next time they take the court. El Rancho will host La Serna at 5:15 p.m. on Friday, while Whittier will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
