Preview: Loyalton Grizzlies vs. Chester Volcanoes
After eight games on the road, Loyalton is heading back home. They will be home for the holidays to greet the Chester Volcanoes at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Loyalton scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Paradise Adventist Academy 69-21 on the road. That 69-21 margin sets a new team best for Loyalton this season.
Loyalton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Catherine Petterson led the charge by scoring 19 points along with eight steals and three blocks. That's the first time this season that Petterson posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Holland, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Chester waltzed into their match Saturday with five straight wins but they left with six. They managed a 42-38 victory over Burney. Given Chester's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while Burney is ranked 761st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Loyalton's victory bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Chester, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
Loyalton strolled past Chester in their previous matchup back in January of 2022 by a score of 46-28. Will Loyalton repeat their success, or does Chester have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
