Basketball Recap: Ferndale Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Ferndale can now relate to. They fell just short of the Fall River Bulldogs by a score of 55-52 on Wednesday. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.

When it comes to explaining why Ferndale lost, don't look at Michaela Ellsmore. Despite the final result, she posted 29 points. The dominant performance gave Ellsmore a new career-high in points. Gianna Regli was another key player, putting up 14 points.

It was another big night for Mylah Darnell, who almost dropped a double-double with 25 points and nine steals for Fall River. That makes it four consecutive games in which Darnell has scored at least a third of Fall River's points. Another player making a difference was Katie Hawkins, who shot 63% from the field on her way to 10 points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Ferndale's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.3 points on average over those games. As for Fall River, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-13 record this season.

Ferndale does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Fall River, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 55-39 loss against Cornerstone Christian on the 8th.
