Basketball Game Preview: Desert Scorpions vs. Bishop Union Broncos

Desert is 1-9 against Bishop Union since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Desert Scorpions will head out to challenge the Bishop Union Broncos at 4:30 p.m.

Desert easily dispatched Palmdale Academy Charter School on Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Desert fell just short of Kern Valley by a score of 50-48 on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Scorpions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 745th, while the Broncs are ranked 306th).

Meanwhile, Bishop Union hadn't done well against Rosamond recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Bishop Union came out on top against Rosamond by a score of 52-39.

Desert better keep an eye on Kristin Allen. She was instrumental in Bishop Union's win, putting up 19 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Allen has scored at least a third of Bishop Union's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Analee Guerrero, who posted eight points and three steals.

Bishop Union's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 32.2 points. As for Desert, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 10-5.

Desert came up short against Bishop Union in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 54-45. Can Desert avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
