Wilcox County is a perfect 10-0 against Dublin since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Wilcox County Patriots are taking a road trip to square off against the Dublin Fighting Irish at 6:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Wilcox County sitting on six straight victories and Dublin on four.
On Tuesday, Wilcox County made easy work of Wheeler County and carried off a 12-2 win. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by seven runs or more this season.
Jake Howell made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Deacon McDuffie was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024. Talon McKinney also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Wilcox County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, everything went Dublin's way against Jefferson County on Tuesday as Dublin made off with a 12-2 victory. Considering the Fighting Irish have won eight games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Wilcox County, Dublin also got a great game from a two-way player: Will Wallace. On the mound, Wallace pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Morgan Davis tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. That's the fewest hits Wallace has allowed since back in February. At bat, Wallace scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Davis scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on CJ Stubbs, who scored three runs and stole Six bases. while going 1-for-3. Ryland Yates was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Wilcox County's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Dublin, their record now sits at 9-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Wilcox County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Dublin struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Wilcox County took their victory against Dublin when the teams last played back in February by a conclusive 10-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wilcox County since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
