Basketball Recap: Holtville Vikings vs. Chula Vista Spartans
Holtville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a 39-23 bruising from the Chula Vista Spartans. The Vikings were not able to make up for their defeat to the Spartans from their previous meeting back in November of 2019.

When it comes to explaining why Holtville lost, don't look at Mallorie Kellum. Despite the final result, she posted 11 points and eight rebounds. Those 11 points gave Kellum a new career-high. Melany Estrada was another key player, putting up four points and 14 rebounds.
Chula Vista was led to victory by Tracy Echoku and Nancy Chavez. Echoku dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards, while Chavez put up eight points and 18 rebounds. Chavez has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Isis Perez, who had eight points and three steals.
Holtville's loss dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Chula Vista, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-6.
Holtville will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Brawley at 7:00 p.m. on January 13, 2025. As for Chula Vista, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 74-21 loss against La Jolla on the 26th.
