Softball Recap: Pius X Has No Trouble Against Gross Catholic

Pius X won the last time they faced Gross Catholic and things went their way on Saturday too. The Thunderbolts blew past the Cougars 9-2. Considering the Thunderbolts have won five matchups by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Adee Duggan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted over her last seven games. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Kendal Heimes was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Jordan Huber was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Pius X was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win made it two in a row for Pius X and bumps their season record up to 6-10. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Gross Catholic, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

Pius X is taking a road trip to square off against Bishop Neumann on Tuesday. The Thunderbolts' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cavaliers have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season. As for Gross Catholic, they will head out to face off against South Sioux City at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Cardinals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.79 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of.
