Basketball Game Preview: Concord Bears vs. Clayton Valley Charter Ugly Eagles

The Concord Bears will face off against the Clayton Valley Charter Ugly Eagles at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Concord has now lost 12 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since January 7.

Concord came up short against Mt. Diablo on Thursday, falling 53-33. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 895th, while the Red Devils are ranked 224th).

Northgate typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Clayton Valley Charter proved too difficult a challenge. They enjoyed a cozy 58-43 victory over the Broncos. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Ugly Eagles.

Concord's loss dropped their record down to 6-16. As for Clayton Valley Charter, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.

Concord took a serious blow against Clayton Valley Charter in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 74-26. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Concord was down 47-16.
