Softball Recap: Elkhorn Comes Up Short

Elkhorn extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping them down to 6-8. They came up short against the Hastings Tigers, falling 8-0. Surprisingly, this marked the Antlers' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Maddie Mitchell was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

As for Hastings, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Considering they have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

On Hastings' side, ELLA TINSMAN made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. TINSMAN has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, BROOKLYN RUTT was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. EMILY KRATZER was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Coming up, Elkhorn will square off against Bennington at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Antlers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Badgers have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season. As for Hastings, they will challenge Lincoln Northwest at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Falcons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.3 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
