River Valley proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 34) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Payson Longhorns 34-31. Winning may never get old, but the Dust Devils sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

River Valley didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Nathan Bush.

Payson lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Bert Scheer, who rushed for 69 yards and one TD, and also caught one touchdown. Another player making a difference was Nolan Keeney, who rushed for 68 yards and a pair of scores on only nine carries.

River Valley's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Payson, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-3.
