River Valley proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 34) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 34-31 victory over the Payson Longhorns. Winning may never get old, but the Dust Devils sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

River Valley didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Nathan Bush.

Several Longhorns players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bert Scheer, who rushed for 69 yards and one touchdown, and also caught one score. Another player making a difference was Nolan Keeney, who rushed for 68 yards and one TD on only nine carries.

River Valley's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Payson, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-3.

River Valley has already played their next matchup, a 46-30 victory against Dysart on the 31st. As for Payson, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 35-25 win against Show Low on the 31st.
