Basketball Recap: Loyalton Takes a Loss

Loyalton and Fall River squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Loyalton had to settle for second. They lost 51-26 to the Fall River Bulldogs. The Grizzlies haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

When it comes to explaining why Loyalton lost, don't look at Catherine Petterson. Despite the final result, she posted six points along with six assists and four steals. Petterson has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mollie Griffin, who had ten points.

Fall River got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mylah Darnell out in front who earned 20 points in addition to seven boards and seven steals. Darnell has become a key player for Fall River: the team is 8-4 when she posts at least three steals, but 4-8 otherwise. Katie Hawkins was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds.

Loyalton's loss dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Fall River, they pushed their record up to 12-12 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Loyalton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Fall River, they will venture away from home to take on Biggs at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
