Recap: Hemet Bulldogs vs. Canyon Springs Cougars
After a string of five wins, the Hemet Bulldogs's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They took a 47-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Canyon Springs. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Hemet in their matchups with Canyon Springs: they've now lost four in a row.
Hemet lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Shaniya Dodson, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Dodson hasn't dropped below two blocks for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Hailey Wolbeck, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Canyon Springs got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Izabella Tejada out in front who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds. Tejada is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Kaleayah Marshall was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Hemet bumped their record down to 10-6 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Canyon Springs, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season.
Hemet will head out on the road to face off against Vista del Lago at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Vista del Lago has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 13. As for Canyon Springs, they will be playing at home against Elsinore at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Elsinore is ranked 748th, while Canyon Springs is ranked 767th).
