Basketball Recap: Waxahachie Triumphs

The Waxahachie Indians beat the Lake Highlands Wildcats 78-70 on Friday.

Michael Gatewood had a dynamite game, going 15-for-21 to rack up 40 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Waxahachie's points. Another player making a difference was Kaleb 'KJ' Jones, who shot 50% from the field on his way to 19 points and seven boards.

Waxahachie's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Lake Highlands, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Waxahachie won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Carter at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Lake Highlands, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Wylie at 7:30 p.m.
