Basketball Recap: Karlene Kepler Key Part of Team Effort in Knights Win

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but North Central ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They blew past the Neligh-Oakdale Warriors 48-25. Things were looking grim for the Knights in the fourth quarter (they were down by 25) but they stormed back to get the match.

North Central's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Karlene Kepler, who posted 13 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Mya Lewis, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine boards.

North Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Jaycee Gadeken and Bree Kester certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Gadeken put up 11 points and four steals, while Kester had three points and five rebounds. Gadeken has been hot for a while, having posted three or more steals the last nine times she's played.

North Central has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season. The loss snapped Neligh-Oakdale's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-16 record.

Coming up, North Central will take on Pender at 6:00 p.m. on February 28th. Pender will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something North Central surely won't give up without a fight. Neligh-Oakdale does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
