Softball Recap: Platte Canyon Takes a Loss

Platte Canyon extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to seven on Friday, dropping them down to 0-4. They lost 32-24 to the Middle Park Panthers. Even if the Huskies couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Platte Canyon saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ridley River, who got on base in all six of her plate appearances with six stolen bases, six runs, and three RBI. Kadence Pietro was another, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

As for Middle Park, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-6. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Middle Park's side, they let Jamie Jordan and Sydney Solomon run wild. Jordan went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, five stolen bases, and six runs, while Solomon got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. Those five stolen bases gave Jordan a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Sanders, who got on base in five of her seven plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.

Coming up, Platte Canyon is taking a road trip to square off against Centaurus at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Middle Park, they will take on Jefferson at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Saints have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.8 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
