Softball Recap: Lutheran Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Lutheran came tearing into Wednesday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Discovery Canyon Thunder 12-2. Considering the Lions have won nine games by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Sophia Reed, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Addie Brightman was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

Lutheran hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Discovery Canyon struck out eight times.

Lutheran's victory bumped their record up to 15-4. As for Discovery Canyon, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lutheran will square off against Erie at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Lions 3.1, the Tigers 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Discovery Canyon, they will host Cheyenne Mountain at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Thunder's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Red-Tailed Hawks have averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season.
