Santa Paula came tearing into Monday's game with 11 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 37.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 71-16 victory over the Channel Islands Raiders. Given the Cardinals' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 438th, while the Raiders are ranked 1198th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Santa Paula got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jalynn Rico out in front who went 7 of 12 to rack up 15 points and eight assists. What's more, Rico also posted a 58% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Garcia, who went 8 for 18 on her way to 18 points and six boards.

Rico wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Santa Paula was working as a unit and finished the game with 24 assists. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now racked up at least 21 assists in four consecutive matches.

Santa Paula's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 20.8 points over those games. As for Channel Islands, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.

Santa Paula will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Elsinore at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. One thing working in Santa Paula's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine contests. Channel Islands does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
