Football Recap: Hempfield Area Comes Up Short

Hempfield Area lost against Central Catholic back in September of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Spartans were dealt a 59-7 defeat at the hands of the Vikings. The matchup marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Jay Ross Szczypinski had an outrageously good game for Central Catholic as he rushed for 99 yards and one TD on only ten carries. Those 99 rushing yards gave Ross Szczypinski a new career-high. Jayden Alexander got in on the action too, returning a kick for a touchdown.

Hempfield Area's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Central Catholic, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-1.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Hempfield Area is set to take on their familiar foe Canon-McMillan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Central Catholic will challenge rival North Allegheny at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Vikings 14, the Tigers 11.2) so any points scored will be well earned.
