Basketball Recap: Victor Valley Comes Up Short

Victor Valley suffered their biggest defeat since February 8th on Friday. They had to suffer through a 69-38 loss at the hands of the Quartz Hill Royals. While losing is never fun, the Jackrabbits can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 573rd, while the Royals are ranked 201st).

Victor Valley lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Eris Roberts, who posted 13 points. Arnetta Ealy Newton was another key player, putting up seven points along with eight rebounds and six steals.

Ashantee Palmer was her usual excellent self, dropping a triple-double on 31 points, ten boards, and 11 steals for Quartz Hill. That makes it five consecutive games in which Palmer has scored at least a third of Quartz Hill's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Hinton, who went 8 of 12 on her way to 21 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Victor Valley and nudges their season record down to 4-5. As for Quartz Hill, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.

Victor Valley will face off against Sultana at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Quartz Hill, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 68-39 loss against Lancaster on the 10th.
