Preview: Boyd County Spartans vs. Creighton Bulldogs
Boyd County is 6-1 against Creighton since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Boyd County Spartans will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Creighton Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. Boyd County is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
Last Tuesday, Boyd County ended up a good deal behind Hartington-Newcastle and lost 37-22. Boyd County has not had much luck with Hartington-Newcastle recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Boyd County had strong showings from Paige Drueke, who scored seven points along with five assists and three steals, and Mckenzie Snyder, who scored four points along with six rebounds. Drueke scored a full 31.8% of Boyd County's points, the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Creighton took a serious blow against Elgin/Pope John last Monday, falling 73-28. While losing is never fun, Creighton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 165th, while Elgin/Pope John is ranked 27th).
Boyd County's loss was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-7. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.3 points per game. As for Creighton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-4.
Everything came up roses for Boyd County against Creighton in their previous meeting back in February as the team secured a 63-34 win. With Boyd County ahead 37-15 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
