Recap: Escalon Cougars vs. Riverbank Bruins
The Escalon Cougars put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They slipped by Riverbank 52-51. For Escalon, this counts as revenge for the 58-41 loss Riverbank walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.
It was another big night for Sammy Lang, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 13 rebounds. The game was her ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Arianna Velasco, who scored nine points along with eight assists and seven rebounds.
Escalon's victory bumped their record up to 16-0. As for Riverbank, their defeat ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Escalon will take on Ripon Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ripon Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 550th, while Escalon is ranked 158th). As for Riverbank, they will head out on the road to face off against Ripon at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
