Basketball Recap: University Comes Up Short

University was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost to the Laguna Beach Breakers on the road by a 48-30 margin. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Trojans of the 35-24 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why University lost, don't look at Ai Miyano. Despite the final result, she posted five points and five steals. Miyano is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Julia Holmes, who earned four points.

Laguna Beach found their leader in freshman Fiona McCormick, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. Kate Cheng was another key player, putting up nine points.

University's loss dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Laguna Beach, their victory bumped their record up to 14-8.

University has already played their next game, a 44-41 win against Northwood on the 14th. As for Laguna Beach, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 50-42 victory against Irvine on the 14th.
