Basketball Recap: Don Lugo Conquistadores vs. Chino Cowboys

The Don Lugo Conquistadores's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a rough 62-16 loss at the hands of Chino. Don Lugo has not had much luck with the Cowboys recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.

When it comes to explaining why Don Lugo lost, one person who can't be blamed is Makena Encarnacion. Despite the final result, she scored five points.

Chino's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tess Oldenburg led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. Oldenburg hasn't dropped below three blocks for ten straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Lyndsey Valverde, who scored 15 points along with eight assists and six rebounds.

Don Lugo has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season. As for Chino, the victory (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 16-3.

Don Lugo won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Braves at 4:45 p.m. on January 25th. Baldwin Park is no doubt hoping to put an end to a 14-game streak of away losses. As for Chino, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. on January 25th. Montclair will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 342nd, while the Cowboys are ranked 101st).
