Softball Recap: Newnan Finds Home Field Redemption Against Dutchtown

There's no place like home for Newnan, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Dutchtown Bulldogs on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Cougars needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Piper Willey looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Newnan let Lauren Watson and Aubree Webb run wild. Watson went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Webb went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Katelyn Lee also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Newnan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .609. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win got Newnan back to even at 5-5. As for Dutchtown, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Newnan beat Dutchtown by a score of 15-0 later that day.
