Los Lunas faced La Cueva in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Tigers took a hard  54-35 fall against the Bears. The  defeat   continues a  trend for the Tigers in their meetings with the Bears: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, Los Lunas still got an impressive performance from   Luke Cieremans, who rushed for 80 yards and two  scores on only eight carries, and also threw for 145 yards and one  touchdown. Another player making a difference was  Martin Cordova, who rushed for 81 yards and one  TD.

 Even if they lost, Los Lunas' defensive line still kept up the pressure with five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by  Eric Pedro and  Brad Mallory, who racked up  four sacks between them. Los Lunas'  loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 4-3. As for La Cueva, the  win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-2.
 Los Lunas has already played their next matchup,  a  38-0  victory against Santa Fe on the 17th. As for La Cueva, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next  game,  a  49-14  win against Atrisco Heritage Academy on the 18th.
