Softball Recap: St. Joseph's Academy Beats Maplewood-Richmond Heights for Their Third Straight Win

St. Joseph's Academy waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Maplewood-Richmond Heights Blue Devils as they made off with a 9-2 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Angels also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2024.

Julie Origliasso spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those 11 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sara Munaco, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Byrne, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: St. Joseph's Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.4.

St. Joseph's Academy's win bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Maplewood-Richmond Heights, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Coming up, St. Joseph's Academy will head out on the road to square off against Cor Jesu Academy at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Angels' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chargers have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. As for Maplewood-Richmond Heights, they will square off against Bayless at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
