Softball Recap: Lakiaya Banks Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Murray County

Cartersville is still undefeated this season after their contest against Murray County on Friday, but Murray County came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Hurricanes never let the Indians get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory. Those one runs were actually the fewest the Hurricanes have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Not much got past Zoie Shiflett, who gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Murray County off the board. Shiflett has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cartersville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lakiaya Banks, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Sam Evans also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Cartersville's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Murray County, their loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.

Cartersville will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Indians: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
