Recap: Mahanoy Area Golden Bears vs. Tri-Valley Bulldogs

The Mahanoy Area Golden Bears had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 38-37 win over Tri-Valley. The victory was just what Mahanoy Area needed coming off of a 59-22 loss in their prior contest.

When it comes to explaining why Tri-Valley lost on Friday, one person who can't be blamed is Cassie Huntzinger. Despite the final result, she scored 13 points. That was a full 35.1% of Tri-Valley's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Grace Header was another key contributor, scoring eight points.

Mahanoy Area's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-7. As for Tri-Valley, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-12.

Mahanoy Area will look to defend their home court on Monday against Schuylkill Haven at 7:00 p.m. Schuylkill Haven presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Mahanoy Area in Pennsylvania (Schuylkill Haven is ranked 188th, while Mahanoy Area is ranked 540th). Tri-Valley won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Halifax at 7:30 p.m. on January 13th. Halifax is on a five-game streak of home losses, Tri-Valley a seven-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change.
