Basketball Recap: Monessen Comes Up Short

Monessen was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They took a blow against the Bishop Canevin Crusaders, falling 65-14. The Greyhounds were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-6.

Bishop Canevin found their leader in sophomore Kya Cooley, who posted 23 points. Those 23 points set a new season-high mark for Cooley. Another player making a difference was Belle Sysak, who put up 19 points.

Monessen's defeat dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Bishop Canevin, their record now sits at 9-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monessen will face off against West Greene at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Monessen is facing West Greene at the right time seeing as West Greene is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Bishop Canevin, they will take on Clairton at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Iyanna Wade and Sysak.
